20 Motivational Fitness Quotes To Get You To Workout
1. Eliminate excuses
“Be stronger than your strongest excuse.”
Don’t make excuses to not workout. Instead, make time to workout. There will always be something “better” to do and somewhere else to go. You’ll always be too busy, too sleepy, too sore, and too tired to workout. Excuses will always be there. However, you are in charge of what you do with your excuses. You can either let your excuses dominate you or you can take your excuses to the gym (or your home gym) and defeat them with a good workout.
Who’s stronger, you or your strongest excuse? Something tells me it’s you!

2. Don’t limit yourself
“Don’t stop when you’re tired, stop when you’re done.”
The only difference between people who accomplish their goals and people who don’t is that those who accomplish their goals are willing to keep going even when the circumstances are not favorable. Obstacles are inevitable.
But, choosing to stop is optional. We all have the option to keep going, pause for a bit (which is fine!), or completely stop. However, only those who continue to go make it to the finish line. In this case, the people who choose to consistently workout (regardless of obstacles) are the ones who see results. You can either continue to work out and challenge yourself to get stronger, or you can stop as soon as you feel tired. If the temporary discomfort you feel is bigger than your goal, stop. When your goal is bigger than your obstacles, the only stop you make is at the finish line.

3. Actions over wishes
“Don’t wish for a good body, work for one.”
Although there is nothing wrong with making wishes, wishes are only wishes until you make them a reality. Wishing for something is not enough to obtain it. Wishing for a “good body” is a great wish, but it’s not enough to get you one. You won’t grow muscles overnight just because you wished for them. The only foolproof way to make your wish a reality is by actively working for it.

4. Treat your body
“Don’t workout because you hate your body, workout because you love it.”
You can replace almost anything you own, except your body. Love it or hate it, it’s the only one you’ll get. So, I mean, you might as well LOVE it, right? 🙂 Since you only get one body on this earth, it’s essential that you take great care of it by keeping it healthy, fit, and active (as much as you can!) One of the best ways to practice self-care is by exercising!
So, working out shouldn’t be a punishment, but rather a deliciously painful treat for your body! You should workout because YOU love your body enough that you’re willing to take an extra step to ensure that it stays healthy and active.

5. Challenge and celebrate your body
“Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do.”
One of the best things about exercising is seeing what your body is capable of.
30 push ups? 50 jump squats? 40 minutes of cardio? Who knew, right?
Well, unless you challenge your body, you won’t really know what you’re capable of doing. Your body has the potential to impress you. It’s your mind that makes you believe that push ups are too hard, burpees are too tiring, and jump squats? oh, don’t even mention them! Challenge your body to exercise and then celebrate what your body can do.

6. Do what you’ve never done
“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”
If you are happy with the life you lead, keep doing what you are doing. However, if you’re craving more, you have to do more. Change doesn’t happen without a challenge. You have to be willing to do something that challenges you in order for it to change you.
Do you want a sixpack? Well, you have to make changes in your routine. If eating unhealthy and working out once a week didn’t do the trick, you have to do something that you’ve never done before.
This could mean changing your diet, working out 5x a week, or even hiring a personal trainer.

7. Excuses won’t speed up the process
“Making excuses burns 0 calories.”
What if instead of coming up with excuses to not workout, you try doing a short 10 minute workout?
Open up YouTube and choose a 10 minute workout of your choice (there are endless options!) Although working out for 10 minutes is not enough to get shredded, it is better than not working out at all. Something is always better than nothing.
While a short 10 minute workout may not help you get a sixpack, it will definitely help you train your body and prepare you for bigger workouts. Excuses only delay your progress.

8. Work for what you want
“Nothing will work unless you do.”
Again, unless you devote your time and energy into something, you won’t get any results. At least not the results that you are expecting. A gym is of no use if no one visits it. Weights won’t help you grow your muscles unless you actually pick them up and put them to use.
You can have all the resources available and at your disposal, but if you don’t take advantage of them, they are useless to you! The only way you’ll see results at the gym or at home is if you workout. There’s a reason you can’t spell workout without WORK.

Don’t go anywhere, more fitness motivation is coming your way! 😉
9. If others can do it, so can you.
“Someone busier than you is working out right now.”
“I’m too busy to workout” is probably one of the most overused excuses when it comes to working out. Truth be told, it’s not really a matter of time but a matter of priority. You’ll always find a way to make time for things that matter to you.
The people training at the gym don’t necessarily have more time than you, they simply prioritize the gym more than you. If getting in shape a priority to you, you will find a way to make time. Even if it means sacrificing your time doing things that you like but don’t provide any value to your life.

10. Work today for a better tomorrow
“Sore today, strong tomorrow.”
Whatever you do today, you will reap tomorrow, the day after that, and so on.
You may feel like exercise is NOT for you because it is painful, it challenges you, and it leaves you sore. But, exercise is what will give your body the results that you want. Without the soreness, there won’t be muscles. Without the pain, there won’t be abs. So, the next time you’re exercising and your muscles start to burn, think of tomorrow.
Would you rather be sore today and strong tomorrow, or comfortable today and weak tomorrow?

11. Sweat now, celebrate later
“Sweat now so that you can glow and celebrate later.”
First you sweat, then you glow.
Although I’m not a huge fan of sweating (I mean, who is?), I LOVE workouts that make me sweat. In all honesty, I don’t really consider a workout “effective” unless there’s some sweating involved.
Sweat is the currency you have to pay order to glow.
I think the price is well worth it, don’t you?

12. Train your mind first
“The body achieves what the mind believes.”
Mindset is key in everything. You are capable of doing everything your mind believes. Your body may control the movements you make, but your mind controls your body.
So, if you have a pessimist and negative mentality, it’ll be impossible for your body to show positive results. A negative mind will never give you positive results. Before you can train your body, you have to train your mind!

13. Once you get started, it gets easier
“The hardest part of working out is starting.”
Have you noticed that the process of getting yourself to workout is harder than your actual workout?
When you have motivation to workout, it’s easy to go to the gym or workout at home. However, when you don’t have any motivation whatsoever, working out seems like a struggle and a hassle! I get it! It’s hard to workout when your mind is giving you a million reasons not to.
However, it’s crucial that you battle with your mind, block out negativity, and simply get yourself to workout. Unless you have a valid reason why you should not workout, don’t give in to negative (or lazy) thoughts. Once you get yourself to the gym or yoga mat (at home) and you begin your workout, it gets easier. I promise!

14. There is no such thing as a bad workout
“The only bad workout is the one that didn’t happen.”
You don’t have to workout at the gym for an hour to consider your workout a “good workout”. And you certainly don’t have to workout everyday of the week to consider yourself fit.
While it’s easy to compare yourself to others and feel like your level of fitness is inferior, the only way you can fail at something is by not trying. Working out for 15 minutes a day is better than not working out at all.

15. Showing up is the secret
“The secret to a successful workout is showing up.”
You can’t have a successful workout unless you show up first. You can have a membership to an elite gym, have access to killer equipment, have a solid fitness plan established, and have the cutest workout clothes, but if you don’t show up, this all means nothing. Showing up is the first step to a successful and effective workout. Everything else builds on from that.

16. Good workout = good mood
“You’re only one workout away from a good mood.”
Not only does your body benefit from exercise, but your mind does as well. There’s been many times that I’ve gone into a workout feeling sad, discouraged, exhausted, and even angry. However, I’ve never left a good workout feeling the same way I came. It’s tricky to workout when you’re not feeling your best, but it’s definitely worth a shot (if working out means that your mood will be lifted!)

17. Don’t stand in your own way
“You’re far too smart to be the only thing standing in your way.”
At the end of the day, no one can hold you back from working out other than yourself. The only person in charge of letting excuses defeat you, obstacles stop you, and lack of motivation discourage you is YOU!
Not the circumstances around you or your neighbor!
There are no external forces that will physically stop you from working out (I mean, I would hope!) The only obstacles you encounter are those in your mind.

18. Don’t let your mind give up
“Your body is not giving out, your mind is giving up.”
Like I said before, you have to train your mind before you train your body. Although you should not put too much pressure on your body (to the point of risking an injury, trust me, I’ve done that), you should always give your body a good (and safe) challenge! Your mind may tell you that you’re not capable of more. Meanwhile, your muscles are asking you to help them grow by NOT stopping too soon.
Did you know that it’s during those reps that burn like hell that your muscles start to work?

19. Determination leads to satisfaction
“Wake up with determination, go to bed with satisfaction.”
Are you tired of going to bed feeling unsatisfied, perhaps wishing you hadn’t skipped your workout? Well, I hate to break it to you (trust me, I really do), but unless you do things differently during the day, you won’t feel any different at night. The same habits lead to the same results.
The key to going to bed feeling satisfied and accomplished is: starting off the morning on the right foot.
Honestly, it all starts in the morning.
If you want to go to bed with the satisfaction that you worked out, you have to envision this in the morning and be determined to workout during the day!

20. Choose your outcome
“Train insane or remain the same.”
At the end of the day, it all comes down to what you really want. Do you want to see change in your body? Do you want to get toned? Or do you want to remain the same? Although there’s definitely nothing wrong with being completely satisfied with where you’re at and how you look right now, it doesn’t hurt to want to improve or get better.

That was excellent. There are so many excuses. I loved “Someone busier than you is working out right now.” We make time for the things that matter to us!
That’s one of my favorite quotes, too! Exactly, our health is so important! So, we definitely have to make time to invest in it 🙂 Thank you!

This post is exactly what I needed right now. My favourite quote here is “someone busier than you is working out right now”. This one particularly resonated with me because I’m always making excuses to not work out, and my most frequently used excuse is that I’m too busy with work, uni, or my blog. I need to remind myself of this quote next time I make that excuse x

Glad to hear it, Roni! I get it. I find myself wanting to skip my workout to work on my blog sometimes too! But, working out helps me stay healthy, happier, and motivated. So, it’s a must!

That first quote is so good! “Be stronger than your strongest excuse.” But this one stood out too: “Nothing will work unless you do.” I was just reading a post on ab exercises so this was the perfect follow up to get me motivated!
I finished my morning workout which was really really good only to come across this post! I definitely don’t mind having a bit more inspiration coming my way! Love the making excuses burning 0 calories quote especially 👌🏾 The last quote is definitely going to be me tomorrow for leg day 😄

I’ve just started a new fitness regime. It can be difficult to stay on track some days. I will be printing some of these quotes and putting them on my wardrobe to inspire me each and every morning. Thank you for sharing xxx
Yes and that is totally fine! No one is motivated to workout everyday. But quotes can definitely help spark some motivation.
That’s such a good idea!:)

I love this blog post SO MUCH. All of these quotes hit you differently when you’ve struggled with body image for such a long time. I used to work out just because I wanted to look good. Now I do it because I know it’s good for me, my health, AND my body.
I saved some of these quotes because they’re so true and motivational. My favorite is definitely: ‘Don’t workout because you hate your body, workout because you love it.’
I’m so glad you mentioned that Alexandra. I definitely agree with you 100% – you should workout because it’s good for you, not because you feel like you have to look a certain way. So glad you are able to see that now. Thank you for reading! x

Thank you so much for sharing this post, I totally needed this right now! What I love most about this post is that the quotes aren’t cringey, but just very realistic. I’ve recently been making lots of excuses not to workout and reading this post has made me realise this has got to stop. I used to be good at pushing past obstacles, but I’ve slipped into bad routines. I love the message behind all of these quotes and it’s really helped push me into gear! xx
You’re so welcome, Sarah. I love hearing this and I am so glad you found these quotes helpful.
It’s normal to slip out of your routine from time to time. What’s important is recognizing this and working hard to get back on track. Which, you seem doing!x

Love #4 & #5 – it is so true that we need to view exercise positively rather than negatively because of the way it challenges our bodies and helps us to celebrate what our bodies can do. Also, you’re 100% right about business vs. priorities. That’s truly how it is with all things in life – we make time for what is important to us.
Exactly, I couldn’t have said it any better myself!

LOVE THIS! Honey, sometimes getting the motivation to work out is hard. You start to think, ‘oh well, I have to clean or I have to do errands or this is more important, I’ll just do that.’ I think quotes are helpful and can help you get in that mindset of okay, I need to do this. It’s easy to forget that working out if part of self-care and that it is important.
Thanks for sharing babe!
