THE IMPORTANCE OF LIFE LESSONS
Life is all about experimenting, adapting, learning, and improving. You have to experiment a variety of situations (both good and bad), consistently adapt in situations to survive, learn from what worked and what didn’t, and improve what needs to be improved. It’s a life long journey of learning. The more you live, the more you learn. And the more you learn, the more you can improve your life and grow as a person. So, if you’re on a journey of personal growth, in this post I have compiled 25 important life lessons that impacted my life over the last few years. You may have already learned these lessons yourself, but if you haven’t, I hope you find them helpful in your journey of life!
25 IMPORTANT LIFE LESSONS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW
1. SILENCE IS NOT A SIGN OF WEAKNESS
While it’s necessary to stand up for what you believe in and voice out your opinion, there are times where silence is the best answer. Knowing when to talk and when to stay quiet is key. Proverbs 17:27-28 says, “He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.” (NKJV)
2. EVERYDAY IS A NEW DAY
No matter how bad today may be, you can always count on tomorrow being a brand new day.
Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.” (NKJV)
3. WORDS ARE POWERFUL
Words have the power to heal or destroy, so use them selectively. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” (NKJV)
4. SUCCESS IS NOT WHAT YOU HAVE OBTAINED, BUT WHO YOU’VE BECOME
Success can’t be measured by how much money you have, how famous you are, or how influential you are. You can have absolutely everything, but still feel a huge void in your heart. True success is becoming the person God created you to be.
5. INTEGRITY GOES A LONG WAY
Always stay true to your beliefs and principles. Don’t let society replace what you believe in with what’s “trendy”.
6. YOUR COMFORT ZONE IS THE WORST ZONE
If you want to change, grow, and thrive as a person, you can’t stay in your comfort zone. The biggest (and best) transformations happen outside of your comfort zone.
7. INVEST IN YOUR HEALTH
Your health is the greatest investment you will ever make.
8. NO PAIN LASTS FOREVER
No matter how much it hurts, how strong the pain is, or how long you have been feeling this pain, remember that no pain lasts forever. For everything in life has a season and a time.
9. FORGIVENESS IS THE ONLY ROAD TO PEACE
Although forgiveness is the hardest road to take, it is the only one that will lead you to peace.
10. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE
Treat everyone with love and respect, but choose your inner circle wisely. Surround yourself with people that will help with your emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual health.
11. YOUR PAST DOES NOT DEFINE YOUR PRESENT OR FUTURE
Who you were yesterday does not have to be who you will be tomorrow.
12. WHILE THERE IS LIFE, IT’S NEVER TOO LATE
It’s never too late to change your life, adapt new habits, start over, create new goals, and follow a different path.
13. YOU HAVE TO HEAL FROM YOUR PAST
No matter how painful your past was, the only way you will move on from it is by healing. Address your past, forgive yourself, forgive others, let go of painful memories, and find closure. You can’t open the door to a happy future if the door of your past is still opened.
14. FOCUS ON WHAT YOU CAN CONTROL
You can’t control what happens to you, the way people treat you, or what happens around you. However, you can control how you react. So, instead of focusing on all the things that are out of your control, focus on the things that are within your control: your reactions.
15. APPRECIATE YOUR OWN COMPANY
Even if you don’t like being alone, learn to appreciate your own company.
16. ALWAYS TRUST YOUR INTUITION
There’s always a reason behind the way you feel, so always trust your gut. 1 John 3:20-21 says, “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.” (NKJV)
17. CHANGE YOUR HABITS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
You can’t change your life around by practicing the same habits. If you want to see change, get rid of toxic habits that are holding you back, and adapt new habits that have the potential to change your life around.
18. TIME DOESN’T RETURN, WAIT, OR STOP FOR YOU
Time is the one thing you could never get back no matter how much you try.
19. REPLACE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS WITH GRATITUDE
There is always something to be grateful for. The beginning of gratitude is the end of deception.
20. INTERNAL HAPPINESS IS THE GOAL
Anyone can be “fake happy” on the outside, but only a few are actually happy on the inside.
21. DON’T LET YOUR HAPPINESS DEPEND ON EXTERNAL FACTORS
Speaking of happiness, don’t let your happiness be dependent on external factors (situations, people, achievements, etc).
22. FAILURE IS PART OF THE JOURNEY
Don’t let failure stop you from reaching the end point. Embrace failure and learn from it.
23. RELY ON DISCIPLINE, NOT MOTIVATION
Because motivation comes and goes, you can’t rely on it to get things done.
24. IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT
Any step in the right direction (no matter how small), is still a step worth celebrating.
25. BATTLES STRENGTHEN YOU
Avoiding battles isn’t success. Surviving and overcoming them is.
