Where are we seeking counsel from?

We are all familiar with the saying, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

Well, the same can be applied to our all round growth. If we aim to grow spiritually, financially, emotionally, relationally and even physically we NEED to engage the word of God in our lives.

The word of God is a light to our feet and a lap to our path.

Sometimes, what we might be seeking for in the courses and books we look to read are additions to what has already been stated in the Bible.

We are told  ‘do not be conformed to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewal of our mind (Romans 12:2).

Transformation over confirmation

Who prefers transformation over confirmation. The underlying meaning behind both words indeed shows the intent behind it. To be confirmed means to be manipulated and bamboozled by the allure of something. Meanwhile, transformation is something that we all desire and it’s a result of us taking part in a change that is occurring from our inward person that will manifest outwardly for all to see.

Therefore, to truly be transformed we must read, meditate and digest the word of God.

Why should you read Proverbs?

The wisest man to have ever lived, King Solomon has provided some major nuggets of wisdom here.

So, why don’t we use the greatest cheat code and apply the wisdom of Proverbs and use it to improve our lives! There are so many insights we can glean from reading the book of Proverbs.

Final Thoughts

Now, don’t get me wrong it’s still advantageous to read all the self-help books and take all the courses but we must be guided in how we do this. We want to maximize our time, energy, effort and money on things that will be useful for us. If it’s going to add that added insight and knowledge to achieving the desired outcome then go for it!  But, it is important to realize that the Bible will always be our first point of contact and source for life changing information. Don’t forget that a proverb a day keeps foolishness at bay! So build godly and good habits this new year!
