Whether it’d be because of school, work, traveling, an illness, or another reason, there is nothing worse than not being able to follow your routine as planned. Right? Personally, I hate having to miss my routine for more than two days because I feel like everything falls out of place when my routine is disrupted. However, it is impossible to follow one specific morning routine every single day because as we all know it, life happens. Which is why, it’s important to have create alternative morning routines for busy and unexpected mornings.

HOW TO DEAL WITH INTERRUPTED MORNING ROUTINES

In a previous morning routine related post, I talked about the importance of creating a productive morning routine that you love.

However, what happens when you have an incredible morning routine all planned out but something unexpected occurs? Perhaps you got sick, had to go into work earlier, or family came over! Do you just put your regular morning routine on hold for a few days and just go with the flow?

Or, do you completely give up on your morning routine because you have already missed so many mornings?

Is it normal to skip your morning routine when life happens? Yes. Is it okay to give up your morning routine when life happens? Absolutely not.

THE #1 REASON WHY PEOPLE GIVE UP ON ROUTINES

One of the reasons why people give up on routines is because they fail to complete their routines for x days.

Many people get discouraged when they miss two or more days because they feel like they have already ruined their routine. Instead of disregarding the days missed and picking up where they left off, they give up on their routine all together.

“Why continue following this routine if I have already missed x amount of days?”

DON’T GIVE UP ON ROUTINES

Unfortunately, unplanned things will always happen.

We won’t always be able to complete our routines as planned. So, at the end of the day what matters most isn’t the ability to follow your routine perfectly everyday, but the ability to not give up on it when you do have to miss a day.

ALWAYS HAVE A BACK UP PLAN

While we always like rooting for plan A, we have to be aware that plan A may not always work. However, just because plan A doesn’t work, it does not mean that we should feel defeated or discouraged. If plan A doesn’t work, we should always have one or more back-up plans to fall on.

If Plan A doesn’t work, there’s always plan B, C, D, E, F and so on…..

And if we don’t have back up plans, well now would be the time to create them.

STAY ON TRACK WITH ALTERNATIVE ROUTINES

Don’t wait for the day where you need a back-up plan to create one. Create your back-up plans now.

So, I encourage you to take some time today to create a couple of alternative morning routines.

Trust me, alternative routines will help you immensely.

Not only will they help you stay on track, but they will also give you a break from your regular routine without having to slack.

  • You’re traveling or on vacation
