Easy Walking Challenge For Beginners

An Easy Walking Challenge

Walking daily (even if it’s only for a few minutes) is important, especially if you’re inactive during the day or you’re someone with a job that requires you to sit in front of a computer screen for a long period of time. However, when you have a busy schedule, walking daily becomes more difficult. And unfortunately, when we skip walking, we also miss out on all the good benefits that come with walking! Which is why, I have created a fun walking challenge that will help you walk more, get your sedentary body moving, and get your steps in, even with a busy and hectic schedule!

There are so many physical and mental health benefits of walking that we should not have to miss out on. It is recommended to walk at least 30 minutes a day in order to maintain a good overall health. However, walking 30 minutes straight every single day can be challenging and even tiring. I completely get it. I personally only walk 20 minutes every evening because that’s how much time I have in my schedule.

Although I go on daily 20 minute evening walks, I still feel the need to walk more because of the amount of time I spend sitting during the day. I usually sit for about four-five hours straight when I’m working on my blog. Therefore, it’s important for me to balance the time I spend sitting with some walking. Even if its only a few minutes.

Walk three minutes for every hour of the day that you’re awake for.

Take three minutes (nothing more, nothing less) every hour to just walk. You don’t have to go outside to walk, you can just walk right where you are.

This challenge begins the moment you wake up and ends the moment you go to bed.

For example, if you’re awake from 6 A.M – 11. P.M then you will walk three minutes for every one of the 17 hours that you’re awake for.

So, by the end of the day, you should have walked for a total of 51 minutes, without even trying to. 51 MINUTES!!!! What? Yeah, you read that right.

easy walking challenge for beginners

1. Play a song.

Choose a 3 minute (or longer) song that you love and walk until the song stops playing.

2. Practice a foreign language.

Choose a 3 minute (or longer) song in a different language and take these three minutes to practice singing in a different language

3. Reflect on life.

Reflect on your goals, surroundings, achievements, blessings, and so on!

4. Brainstorm ideas.

Whether you run a blog or a business, use these three minutes to brainstorm ideas for your next projects!

5. Memorize things.

Take three minutes to get your brain working! Choose a quote or a bible verse and repeat it over and over again (during the three minutes) until you memorize it.

I created a printable to help you keep track & be accountable for the 3 minutes you walk EVERY hour, so be sure to print it out!

These are good tips! Every bit of movement counts and we really have to reach sometimes because life has become so easy that physical labor is rare. I need to up my walking game.

This is EXACTLY what I need to get moving! At the moment I struggle to hit step targets then feel guilty about it but 3 minutes an hour sounds a lot more realistic and achievable so I’ll give this a go. 🙂

Thanks for sharing such a great post Gabby!
