If I were to define what a morning routine is I’d say it is the way you consistently start off your day everyday. Even though we all have different schedules and start off the day during different times, we all start the day at some point. Don’t we? Everyone has some kind of morning routine, whether it’s a planned one or not. Whether it’s effective or not. However, only a few people actually have an effective morning routine! Therefore, I want to help YOU create a morning routine that is not only effective, but suited for you.

THE IMPORTANCE OF MORNING ROUTINES
Regardless of the time we all choose to start our day (some early, some late), it is crucial that we start our day on the right foot in order to ensure a productive day. Now, I am completely aware that the beginning of the day may be the worst time for some people. I’m personally an early bird, but I get it…trust me! Who doesn’t like their sleep?
While mornings can be quite challenging for various reasons, they are the best time to prepare for the rest of the day. The way you start off your morning can either make or break your day! Which is why it is so important to have an effective morning routine!
CREATING A MORNING ROUTINE SUITED FOR YOU
Today I want to motivate and help you create an effective morning routine that is suited for YOU! We all have different schedules, therefore, we all require different routines! So, it’s okay to build a routine that may be different than everyone else’s as long as it is perfect for you! So, are you ready to build an effective morning routine?
HOW TO CREATE AN EFFECTIVE MORNING ROUTINE:
1. DECIDE WHAT TIME YOU WILL WAKE UP EVERYDAY
Whether you’re a student, a stay at home mom, an employee at a company, or a business owner, choose a time that you plan to wake up EVERYDAY. Well, at least from Monday to Friday (I’m not completely insane, ha!)
It’s important that you choose a realistic time to wake up. There is no point in waking up at 5 A.M for a few days when you will eventually go back to waking up at 11 A.M. Choose a time you will be consistent with. Consistency is key here. Isn’t it always?
2. FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH FREE TIME YOU HAVE IN THE MORNINGS.
How much time do you have in the morning before your first major obligation?
How much time do you have before your first class, your first shift or before dropping off your kids at school (if applicable)?
Do you have an hour, two hours or three hours? Before creating your morning routine, you have to be aware of how much time you have available for yourself.
3. IDENTIFY YOUR PRIORITIES
Are your priorities health-related, hygiene-related, motivational-related or work-related? Your priorities can be as simple as brushing your teeth or as complicated as getting a workout in. What are the things that you believe are a must EVERYDAY?
What are some things that you believe are important to implement in your routine?
Please take a moment to brainstorm.
4. CREATE A LIST
After identifying your priorities, make a list! List all of the things that you would like to do every morning. For example, check emails, drink water, do a mask, read a book, go for a walk, workout, make a healthy breakfast, etc!
5. DIVIDE UP YOUR TIME
Now that you have your list, divide up the time that you have (from Step 2) and assign time to every task in your list.
How much time does it take to shower? brush your teeth? eat breakfast? check emails? go for a walk? Write down the minutes it takes you to complete every task.
6. CREATE CATEGORIES
Once you have your priorities set straight, the tasks you want to accomplish and the time it takes you to complete every task, it’s time to categorize!
Categorize all of your tasks into 6 major categories!
For example: brushing your teeth, taking a shower, getting dressed, doing hair & makeup could all be in one category – a getting ready category.
7. CREATE THE ROUTINE
This is where my printable (free printable attached below) comes into play.
Print out this PDF and start filling it in. I have provided 6 slots for 6 different categories. Based on the list you created above, the times you assigned to do each task and the categories – fill out this printable.
Fill in the title of the category on top of each slot, the things you will do in each category and from what time to what time you will complete the tasks in each category.
Example of how one slot can look like:
- Watch motivational videos (10 min)
- Journal (7 min)
- Write Down Affirmations (3 min)
8. SET UP ALARMS *OPTIONAL*
Alarms can be so helpful when it comes to accomplishing tasks on time! If you want to further ensure that you will complete every task at the assigned time, add an alarm for every category. Once you have completed these 8 steps, you are ready to follow your morning routine the next morning!
