Perhaps you’ve been spending a good portion of your day on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and even Tik Tok (it’s heavily growing on you too, isn’t it?), everyday! Or, you just need to get away from all the pressure, comparisons, and negativity on social media? Trust me, I can relate to both! Whether you’re a content creator like me, whose job is literally to SPEND a lot of time on social media, or you’re simply someone who likes using social media for the fun of it, you can benefit from a good social media detox from time to time! Luckily for you, I have created a 30 day social media detox challenge to help you unwind from social media and give yourself the break you deserve during the next 30 days!

UPGRADED SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX CHALLENGE

In 2019 I created a 7 day detox challenge (you can check it out, here) that was super effective and fun to follow!ย Since this detox challenge helped me and everyone else who tried it, I decided to create an upgraded version of this challenge: a 30 day social media detox challenge.

A REALISTIC SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX CHALLENGE 

Now I know what you’re gonna say, 30 DAYS? THAT’S TOO MUCH! Have you completely lost your mind, Gabby?

Well, I’m here to tell you that although this is a 30 day social media detox, you won’t necessarily spend 30 days away from social media. I have not gone insane…..well, at least not yet. Maybe we’ll save that idea for the next challenge, haha! 

This detox challenge is meant to help you detox from social media in a realistic and do-able way. 

If I would tell you to stay away from social media for 30 days, you most likely wouldn’t do it. But, if I would tell you to stay away from, let’s say Facebook for x amount of hours a day, you would! That is what this challenge is all about.

THE RIGHT DETOX CHALLENGE FOR YOU

So, whether or not you have tried a social media detox before, this detox challenge is perfect and very suitable for detox beginners, detox experts, and people who are literally glued to their phones! You know who you are, ha!

SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX CHALLENGE RULES: 

  • Once you start the challenge, you must follow it until you reach DAY 30 in order to successfully complete it.
  • You have to complete all 30 tasks in the challenge for successful completion.
  • Download the social media detox challenge pdf that I created, so that you can track your progress! 

30 DAY SOCIAL MEDIA DETOX CHALLENGE

So, will you be joining me in this 30 day challenge? If so, get ready for the best social media detox challenge ever! 

DAY 1 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE AM

Today’s task: Don’t use social media all morning.

So, no scrolling, answering messages, or posting on social media until 12pm hits. Instead, use this time to practice some powerful morning rituals! Here are 30 great morning habits you can add to your morning routine

DAY 2 – ONE PLATFORM LIMIT

Today’s task: You can only use one social media platform today.

So, choose which social media platform you want to use: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter, and make sure it’s the only one you use today.

DAY 3 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE AFTERNOON

Today’s task: Don’t use social media all afternoon. 

Stay away from all your socials from 12pm until 5pm. So, no scrolling, answering messages, or posting during this time.

DAY 4 – INSTAGRAM FREE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use Instagram today.

Today’s an Instagram free day, so no matter what you do, fight the urge of opening your Instagram app (mobile or desktop)! If it helps, turn off Instagram notifications that way you’re not tempted to check the app.

DAY 5 – DITCH SOCIAL MEDIA WHILE EATING

Today’s task: Stay way from social media while eating. 

So, no social media during breakfast, lunch, dinner, or any in between snacks! 

DAY 6 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA UNTIL 5PM

Today’s task: Don’t use social media until 5pm.

Avoid going on any social media platform until the clock hits 5pm. 

DAY 7 – ENGAGEMENT FREE DAY

Today’s tasks: Don’t engage on social media today. 

You can go on social media today, but don’t message anyone, respond to messages or comments, or leave any comments. 

DAY 8 – 1 HOUR LIMIT

Today’s task: Only use social media up to 1 hour today. 

Time yourself every time you use social media and make sure you only use it until you hit your one hour limit. 

DAY 9 – TURN OFF SOCIAL MEDIA NOTIFICATIONSย 

Today’s task: Turn off all social media notifications today. 

Go to your settings and turn off any social media related notifications. You can use social media today, but your notifications must be turned off all day long. 

DAY 10 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use ANY social media platform today. 

Your job today is to completely distance yourself from social media. So, no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. for 24hrs!

DAY 11 – FACEBOOK FREE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use facebook for the day. 

Stay away from all things Facebook today. And yes, messenger counts!

DAY 12 – 10 MINUTE LIMIT

Today’s task: Limit your time on social media today. 

So, no scrolling on social media for more than 10 minutes at a time. 

DAY 13 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE EVENING

Today’s task: Don’t use social media all evening. 

Disconnect yourself from social media all evening. So, don’t use any social media from 5pm to 9pm. 

DAY 14 – USE SOCIAL MEDIA 5 TIMES

Today’s task: Only use social media a total of 5 times today.

Basically, you’re allowed to check your social media (the platform of your choice) 5 different times during the day. 

PS: You’re only allowed to go on one platform at a time, so choose wisely! 

DAY 15 – DON’T POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA TODAY

Today’s task: Don’t post on social media today.

You can use any social media platform you want to today as long as you don’t post anything. So, no status updates, instagram stories, posts, or tik tok videos. 

DAY 16 – TWITTER FREE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use Twitter for the rest of the day. 

Stay away from Twitter all day. 

DAY 17 – PUSH UPS FOR EVERY 10 MINUTES

Today’s task: Do one push up every time you go on a social media app. 

If you really hate push-ups, then you can choose an exercise of your choice (click here for 100 cool exercises you can do) Regardless of the exercise you choose, make sure that you do it every time you spend 10 minutes on social media. 

DAY 18 – ONLY USE SOCIAL MEDIA FOR 30 MINUTES TODAY

Today’s task: Only use social media up to 30 minutes today. 

Do not spend more than 30 minutes on social media today. 

DAY 19 – DON’T USE SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE FIRST 2 HOURS OF THE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use social media until 2 hours after you wake up. 

Regardless of the time you wake up. stay away from social media (and your phone, if you can!) for the first two hours of your day.

DAY 20 -NO SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use ANY social media platform today. 

Your job today is to completely distance yourself from social media. So, no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. for 24hrs!

DAY 21 – USE SOCIAL MEDIA ONLY ON DESKTOP

Today’s task: Don’t use your phone to check social media.

You can only visit Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram from your computer! 

DAY 22 – TIKTOK FREE DAY

Today’s task: Do not use TikTok for the day. 

Stay away from TikTok and don’t open any TikTok videos all day. 

DAY 23 – DON’T USE SOCIAL MEDIA AT NIGHT

Today’s task: Don’t use social media all night long. 

So, stay away from social media from 9pm to 4am. 

DAY 24 – DON’T USE SOCIAL MEDIA OUTSIDE

Today’s task: Don’t use social media outdoors

You’re only allowed to use social media while indoors. So, avoid checking your socials when you’re outside today. And if you don’t have any plans to leave your house, now you do! Go on a 20-30 minute walk and don’t use your phone while walking.

DAY 25 -NO SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use ANY social media platform today. 

Your job today is to completely distance yourself from social media. So, no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. for 24hrs!

DAY 26 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA AT LUNCH OR DINNER

Today’s task: Don’t use social media during lunch or dinner.

Stay away from social media while eating lunch and dinner today. 

DAY 27 – ONLY USE UP TO 2 PLATFORMS TODAY

Today’s task: Only use up to two social media platforms today.

Choose two social media platforms and only use those two for the entire day. So, if you choose Twitter and Instagram, make sure you stay off Facebook!

DAY 28 – NO SOCIAL MEDIA TWO HOURS BEFORE BED

Today’s task:  No social media two hours before bed. 

Log off from all social media two hours before going to bed. Instead, read a book, put on a mask, or journal.

DAY 29 – ONLY USE SOCIAL MEDIA FOR 15 MINUTES

Today’s task: Only use social media for 15 minutes today. 

Do not spend more than 15 minutes on social media today. 

DAY 30 -NO SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE DAY

Today’s task: Don’t use ANY social media platform today. 

Your job today is to completely distance yourself from social media. So, no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok. for 24hrs!

    This is such an interesting way to approach a social media detox. I like that it isn’t just stopping all social media all together (which I’ve done in the past), but is hard to truly benefit from once you end up back on social media platforms again. Kinda like how a fad diet or fast doesn’t always lead to lasting changes!

    But I like how your challenge seems to be geared towards healthy habits and regaining control/discernment regarding how often and how long we spend on social media. This is def something that I need to try. IG really just sucks all my time!
